Above is Building 415, which previously held our pediatric programming.  Richmond State Hospital no longer treats children, and so this building has been used to house several other State agencies as well as our housekeeping department.  However, it is designed as inpatient units, and with some updates and renovations, could be used for clinical services again for anywhere between 30 to 60 patients.

So in conclusion, all of us need to remember why the American asylums were created, and we need to understand the work that they have done and continue to do.  In so doing, I believe this country will see that until the day we can stamp out mental illness and addiction forever, that the State Hospitals can be and are a partner and a resource.

Asylum is not a dirty word.  Asylum means Recovery, Strength, and Hope.
